Today put to you the answers to our interview with the newspaper “Folha de Sao Paulo” to end a controversy generated by it, because of lack of space maybe my comment about the future of comics ended up leaving in a way that it appeared the future them would be its own extinction. How!? Soon I, absolute fan of comics, imagine. Extinction would be to be printed on paper. In this I am really radical. Some do not agree with me (most), but no return, see an example: “I’ll never change my LPS collection of such tapes for these tapes,” “I’ll never change my collection of cassette tapes for those such CDs “” I’ll never change my CD collection by those such MP3, “” I’ll never … and goes for (æ)!

- You are responsible for all comics site? Can you explain a bit how the process of creating comics for you from the Internet? The process is different from creating on paper? How?

Balao EM - Balao EM
Yes, all the stories on the site were created, written and produced by us (I and C. George). Well, it all begins with a set of ideas, an argument up that particular edition of the magazine. After we have a roadmap that is consistent and then start up the layouts of pages. Sometimes when you have a snippet that C. George has imagined the scene so he does the same layout and the time to draw as I follow the original idea was his and vice versa. In the process of the designs we seek from the beginning of the conventional process used in the production of our webcomic. When we started planning the site ae comics as well as our Web comic Absolutus Empire had an immense range of possibilities that we could use in the production of our HQ. There were several formats that could create and numerous types of traits that could adapt as drawing directly on the computer for example. But we did not want to leave aside the default format of production and so we decided to merge the output format with the conventional technology and interactivity that the Internet had to offer. The process is thus the first design pages in the same hand, using pencil and ink nankin after conventional and after scanning the pages comes the stage of colorization is done on the computer with the help of a tablet. After the coloring is what happens to the transformation of our HQ for a Digital Comic. We use an animation software which is made steps lettering, resizable balloons, and animations and sounds that were inserted as specified in the original idea of the script. After the whole process is that we publish on the site. Webmaster (who develops the format of the pages on the site), flasher (one that works with flash animations). - Besides having facilitated the process of publishing and distribution in other fronts that the Internet has changed the production of comics?

C.George - C.George
Today we can already work without paper, pencil and ink. Certainly this influences the cost and benefits of production, because the interactive digital comics are, in my view, a good surprise, since not only saves money for creators (with the creation of comics from digital tools) and maintaining an interface very close to the printed comics but with the advantage of adding audio visual resources, but to reach an audience directly and accurately without any need for common channels of distribution and resale (digital broadcasting). And the very issue of a comic strip printed on the Internet as a tool became a center of distribution of various artists with their publisher, the designer can now live in Brazil, the writer in Scotland, the inker and graphic in Japan in Africa. And the very famous designers besides just ride your online portfolio, building their own stories that may not appear in the publisher that work. And the Internet goes beyond connecting people and be just another means of disseminating new projects. In it we find new experiences, richer than scan your drawing and send it to a blog. Several artists are getting, since leaving the limitations of paper, create new and even daring to read different formats, thus promoting a valid change of language.Fundo Balao blog down - Fundo Balao blog down

Balao EM - Balao EM
One of the most exciting is certainly interactivity. And what has changed in the creation of these comics was the entailment of more production, steps bringing her other professionals, as previously mentioned.

- What are the main differences between webcomics and the printed comics?

C.George - C.George
For our Digital Interactive Comics (Dic) can refer to some aspects such as:

a) In some books, the onomatopoeia replaced by the sound of a scene, like a shot, car skidding, jet flying, an explosion, etc..

b) In other comics create animations based on the traits of the artist as a car being thrown, passing on into the night, a flying bird.

c) We use the space better in the widescreen monitors is already a trend in the development of balloons, they increase in size and disappear during the animations making pages cleaner. Translations just when reading the Latin words used by the characters (a tribute to our Portuguese language, which, after all descended from Latin).

d) We work with several scenes in perspective thus creating a sense of space and depth.
Fundo Balao blog down - Fundo Balao blog down

Balao EM - Balao EM
e) Mobility? I can not read my favorite magazine in the bathroom or the balcony? At the time yet, but are already being created roles digital phones with larger displays, portable hds better and smaller. Not to mention the unnecessary physical movement to the point of sale to buy one of our issues, the sale is also done online.

f) Distribution. Just when we release an issue, not only the readers of our city, our state, our country has the opportunity to access our magazine as we have other countries that speak Portuguese, not to mention the Brazilians who live abroad. The same edition of Absolutus Empire can be seen at the same time here in Brazil and Japan, and globalization will be complete when we launch editions in English and Spanish.

g) Not to mention that we Interactivity with readers through chat rooms, forums, profiles of designers in various national and international communities, events and news in the publishing blog, emails, the internet is bringing people together. Chance of bug fixes in some editions as soon as the player to communicate, something that a print magazine that would be impossible to resolve in the same edition, a further notice of correction in a later edition. Not forgetting that for the reader to have all the above mentioned it has to interact with both the pages with both our site.

- You can cite some examples of comic (besides you) that produce only for the Internet in Brazil and the world? They can be considered as-or perhaps even more-pop than the printed versions?

C.George - C.George
Absolutely and not a few, here we go:

The Company’s excellent Top Shelf Lost Girls, From Hell and future volumes of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (all of Alan Moore), contains the site of webcomics, the Top Shelf 2.0.

The Publisher of DC Comics Superman and Batman have Zudacomics, where the Brazilian cartoonist Francisco Alexandre de Freitas Alves published The Passenger, known as Falex webcomics creator of “The Mouse the Building ”

A Publisher of Marvel Comics Spider-Man and Captain America have Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited with Photo of several of its publications printed and digitally recolored to be aired on the internet, with some free editions and the other closed in a package of monthly or annual subscription.

“Brigade Onyx by Victor Hugo Carballo.

“Comborangers´s Fabio Yabu. His most famous series of webcomics first published on the web through the Universe Online, and in 2001 became a comic book, published by publishers JBC and Panini.

“Moving Pictures, Stuart and Kathryn Immonen where the publisher, Top Shelf will publish in 2009 his webcomic. Stuart Immonen for those who do not know, was designer Nextwave and Ultimate X-Men, and is currently drawing Ultimate Spider-Man. Kathryn Immonen did the scripts Patsy Walker - Hellcat.

“HQnado: Alessandro Scrignolli and Mark Gratão.

Several webcomics artists and writers who make up the group The Chemistry Set.

Television series Heroes, NBC arises between one season and another a collection of webcomics with all the characters in the series, some of them already printed out here in Brazil.

“The Right Number” that I like best for drawing graphs in three dimensions, where the author has definitively abandoned base paper and took the computer screen, mouse, pens and digital graphics software as their new tools. I speak of no less famous artist and theorist Scott McCloud comic. For his work with comic books, became a collector of Eisner and Harvey awards, the two most important North American market. In Brazil, also won a HQ Mix, Best Theoretical Paper in 1995. Since it is just one of the comic book and its distribution on the Internet. His works have been translated into 14 languages with three comic books published in Brazil.

“Argon Zark”, Charley Parker, among many.

“Explorers of the Unknown” a strip of science fiction, written by Gian Danton and designed by Jean Okada.

Not forgetting our magazine “Absolutus Empire” in C. George and E. Martin: This is a comic book designed specifically for readers, who were born in this generation of children, adolescents and also adults who have other reading habits, and have been used to access online content, including comics in digital form . The project was designed for the Internet, have all pages produced in the traditional way and finished in Flash format, widescreen (horizontally) makes it more comfortable reading on the monitor screen, to bring you a practical and great navigation features, viewing, reading and especially interactivity. - Is there a prize for comics on the internet (I know that were included in Eisner 2005, but there are some specific?)?

Balao EM - Balao EM
The award “Best Online Comics Work” of the Harvey Award since 2005;

The award “Best Digital Comic” Eisner Awards since 2005, where in 2008 the Brazilian Fabio Moon (drawings) won by HQ online Sugarshock (written by Joss Whedon for Dark Horse Presents);

The award “Web Comics” of HQMIX (Brazil) since 2008, first as “Site of comics”;

And maybe soon Award Angelo Agostini. (Brazil)
Fundo Balao blog down - Fundo Balao blog down

- And finally, what are your views on the direction of HQ on the Internet?

C.George - C.George
I’m radical on this subject. The question of how to adapt to the Internet, in my opinion, decide the function of comics (and even their very existence) in the next decade. Digital is here (æ)! It can be used either for good or for evil (the rolls of film, cassettes, vinyl records and CDs that tell). For it is undeniable that its characteristic features (the visual narrative, balloons and synthetic graphics, colors, and especially interactivity) produced by a computer-enhancing designs and add even more dynamism to the sequences of a comic book. Not to mention the digital paper. I still believe, that the reader in the future (not far), due to their own electronic language, and feel closer to the protagonists of the stories (as mentioned above) will become accomplices of the authors and create a joint product (Many heads are better than one). But all this will depend on market demand digital publishing. Well, unfortunately not everyone who is connected with the virtual world (digital), most have still barely tender to go to school, what about micro computers.
Fundo Balao blog down - Fundo Balao blog down

Balao EM - Balao EM
I think that digital comics will make your space according to the publishers are making room for them. Are inevitable, the book will provide computers and there will be many ways to make and read comics. There will be different ways to navigate from one frame to another. As well as the different types to tell a story too. How were the French in 1422: “Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!” Today I say: “The Comic died, long live the Comics”

Por que o novo sempre assusta?
Eu me faço sempre esta pergunta.
A novidade sempre traz a angústia, o medo, as incertezas.
Estou pronto!
